|
| |
Year 4 attended Wodson Park for an afternoon of indoor athletics run by the local secondary schools. They hugely enjoyed the afternoon, which featured: chest pass, speed bounce, javelin!!!, jumping and running, with each receiving a certificate. Mrs Voss would like to praise the team on being such great sporting ambassadors for Morgans. |

Netball Report Nov 2010 |
|
|
| |
Last Thursday Morgans played Abel Smith at netball. It was a hard mach but Morgans won 8-0. The amazing team was Louise, Kitty, Jasmine, Olivia, Erin , Millie, Ellen, Faye, Maddy, Charlotte and Isabella, with Miss Gardner and all the parents cheering us on. In the first quarter we scored two goals: Millie scored one and Olivia scored the second - 2-0 Morgans. In the second quarter we scored three more: another by Millie which made it three nil after Louise scored four nil, then Olivia scored one just after the second quarter was going to finish, at the end of the second quarter it was 5-0. The third quarter wasn't as successful we only got one goal by Millie 6-0. In the last quarter Millie scored which made it 7-0, just after Olivia scored 8-0, we were wondering if Abel Smith were ever going to score but then mach was over and a victory for Morgans 8-0.

Football Report Nov 2010 |
|
|
| |
Thursday 18th of November and Morgans were playing Abel Smith. It was a tough game and we battled well. There were some good attempts from Morgans up front players at scoring, but we just couldn't get them in the back of net. Abel Smith were a strong team and took their chances well. Morgans did have some parts in the game where we played very good football, but we didn't get enough shots away to trouble the keeper. About ten minutes into the first half Abel Smith went 1-0 up with an unfortunate own goal. In the second half we started well but they came back with two more goals. The final score was 3-0 to Abel Smith. Although the team lost wearing the new strip for the first time, the overall performance was promising - well played team! Report by Joshua. |

Morgans vs Abel Smith
We had a very exciting match! Abel Smith were no match for us on this occasion, although they put up a good fight. Heather, Centre, passed to Liberty, Goal shooter, who passed the ball to Laura, Goal attack, who scored a tremendous goal!!! The rest of the team: Olivia, Chloe, Charlotte, Faye, Lillie, Victoria and Ashley also played tenaciously throughout.
As it was just a friendly game we had four five minutes in the game. In the end the score was 1-0 to us! WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could hardly contain ourselves and rushed to tell Mr Moore the score, and anybody else who would listen!

Year 5 And 6 Girls Inter-House Football Oct 2010 |
|
| |
Following on from last week's successful Year 3 and 4 inter-house girls football tournament, this week it was the turn of our Year 5 and 6 girls to go head to head on the football field. Everyone played well and lots of people came forward to represent their houses. The teams were very competitive, although everyone had lots of fun. Sporting behaviour was evident throughout and we all shook hands before and after each game. Everyone played as well as they could - we thought everyone took part and worked really well as a team - well done to all involved.
Report by Eleanor, Maddy and Kitty
The overall results were as follows:
Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
B2 M2 B2 L2 M0 L0
R0 L3 R0 M1 R0 B0
This meant Rib finished on 4 points, Beane on 6 and tied on 7, were Mimram and Lea. Lea's goal difference proved the deciding factor and they were this week's overall winners.

Footall And Netball Season Begins Oct 2010 |
|
| |

|
Both the football and netball fixtures got underway against Bengeo this Thursday. Ms. Ashby reports how well the netball teams played and how much progress they have made. Bengeo are always strong teams and the Morgans Y6 team lost 6-1 and the Y5 team lost 8-0. Both teams played well as teams, showed great spirit and are really developing their understanding and skills.
In football, the A team (without their van!) competed well in a close game, which for 25 minutes could have gone either way. With 5 minutes to go Bengeo scored 2 good goals, to see Morgans off on this occasion. The B team proved too strong for Bengeo and galloped to an 8-1 victory.
Well done to all involved. It was great to see so many children involved and supporting both sports and fixtures. Thank you to all staff who assisted.

Year 3 and 4 InterHouse Girls Football Oct 2010 |
|
|
| |
It was great to see the effort, enjoyment and enthusiasm from the 34 Year 3 and 4 girls involved in this week's inaugural Morgans' House Sports Tournament. Equally good was the support provided by the rest of the juniors during the games. This half term's focus sport is football, though we plan to give our pupils a range of other healthily competitive sporting opportunities over the remainder of the year. The House Captains marshalled their teams superbly as the matches were played on consecutive Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes. Beane, Rib, Mimram and Lea all acquitted themselves very well and the children's understanding of the game and general play improved over the week. Results were as follows:
Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
M2, R1 B1, M0 R1, B0
B3, L0 L1, R3 M2, L1
3 points were awarded for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for playing the match. This means the overall final standings were:
Beane 7 points, Rib 7 points, Mimram 7 points and Lea 3 points.
The overall winners on goal difference were therefore Beane. Really well done to all involved and thank you to those staff who gave their time to referee the games. |

County Tennis tournament July 2010 |
|
|
| |

|
On Tuesday the 6 th of July, 12 children from Year 4 entered a school tennis competition at Legends Tennis Association .We got split into 3 teams of 4, team x, team y and team z. In team x were Holly, Pia, Adam and Josh. In team z were Bailey, Toby, Alice and Molly. In team y were Dominic, James, Chloe and Rebecca. All of the Morgans teams played very well, but team x were most successful. Team x started very well by winning all their group games apart from one. Team x got 119 points out of a possible 120 points. Unfortunately team z got knocked out in the group stages and the other 2 teams reached the semi-final. Both teams played well and team x came out on top. Team y played well but got knocked out. In the final team x played extremely well and managed to win it. We then had to play the winners of another tournament, Abel Smith and we played well and managed to beat them.
As a result of this we went through to the County Finals . The teams were of a much higher standard this time and so it was difficult to win a game. We were put in to groups of one 3 and two groups of four we were put in a group with Reed School and another one. We lost all but one of the first set of games, then were more successful, and because of this we came second in our group. As a result we played against the people that also came second in their group. We got the best place we could from our second place qualification, so overall we came 5 th in Hertfordshire!!! Well done to all Morgans representatives - great stuff!

Rounders Round-Up July 2010 |
|
|
| |
On Tuesday Miss Bull and Mrs Lundy took 20 Year 3 children to a rounders tournament at Simon Balle . We went there with 3 other schools . In the morning we were getting trained by sports leaders. There were 4 different areas. At each area 2 sports leaders taught us a skill. There was team building, batting, long barrier and throwing and catching. In the afternoon we were split into 6 groups of 12 for the real tournament. It was great fun and we really improved our rounders. Thank you to Ms. Bull, Mrs Lundy and Ms. Ashby for taking us to the tournament.

Mickey Hazard Visit July 2010 |
|
|
| |
On Monday the school had the chance to interview former professional footballer Mickey Hazard. He spoke to the children and staff about his life and how he became involved in football, and answered a wide range of questions from each year group. The children were enthralled to hear him speak of a number of career highlights and life lessons, along with what it takes to be a top flight sports person. We thank him for his time and the entertaining and informative assembly he delivered.
Here he is with the children who quizzed him so expertly!!! |

Brightlingsea Sailing Opportunity July 2010 |
|
|
| |
On the sailing trip on Friday three Morgan's year six boys (Gabriel, James and Harrison) went to Brightlingsea, Essex. Instead of sailing on a lake, which we were used to, we had the opportunity to sail on the open sea in Wayfarers. It was very different because with no sail the strong current would drag you along, but we got used to it quickly. After about two hours we sailed to Mersea which is an island off the coast of Essex . On Mersea Island we had lunch on top of an old machine gun pill box dug into the ground. After lunch we got back onto the water and rigged the boats again and set off again using our secret weapon, a spinnaker as a third sail on the boat. We had a bit of fun by putting our feet into the toes straps and putting our hair into the water. We had a lot of fun and I would love to do it again.
