Erin, the winning sculptural artist, has written this explanation of how her design became a reality and what each element represents.
The 60th Anniversary Competition ...
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the opening of Morgans School , it was decided to hold a competition. There were two parts you could enter. One was a piece of writing, but I decided to try for the sculpture category.
Hence 'The Totem Pole!'
My dad came up with the idea of the totem pole but I did the design. The symbols represent each year group, with an attentive student sitting cross-legged right on the top. Reception Class, at the bottom of the pole, is shown by a child and teacher with a bookcase. Year 1 has sea shells and the sun shining over the beach as I remember winning the sand castle competition.
A recorder and a child playing a recorder is there for Year 2. Mrs Broomfield taught us how to play although now she's retired but I still see her for extra maths.
